NATIONAL PRESS CLUB HONORS SEN. REVILLA WITH PRESTIGIOUS PRESS FREEDOM AWARDS

Today, the National Press Club (NPC) awarded Sen. Ramon Bong Revilla Jr. with a Plaque of Recognition for his commendable performance as Chairperson of the Senate Committee on Public Information during the 18th Congress for shepherding the passage of Republic Act No. 11699 or the “National Press Freedom Day”. As the recognized national organization in the country in promoting press freedom, NPC also led the conferment of the Plaque of Commendation from Office of the President – Presidential Task Force on Media Security to the Senator.

Sen. Revilla sponsored the measure that led to the celebration of Freedom of the Press every August 30 of every year, which coincides with the birth date of Gat. Marcelo H. Del Pilar, who is considered to be the Father of Philippine Journalism.

As the champion of press freedom in the Senate, Sen. Revilla’s firm and determined effort in steering the enactment of the measure demonstrates not only his deep appreciation and understanding of the historical struggle of our journalists but also the important role they play in nation-building and upholding truth in our society.

The award is presented to him in the Senate of the Philippines by members of the NPC, as follows: Ms. Lydia Bueno, Mr. Paul Gutierrez, Mr. Leonel Abasola, and Mr. Aya Yupangco.
