Philippine Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Act
More than 20 typhoons hit our country every year. As climate change progresses, the loss is accumulating. Natural calamities have taken a toll on human life and continue to leave massive destruction in our natural resources.
Senator Bong Revilla co-sponsored SB 2013 – An Act Strengthening Philippine Disaster Risk Management Capability by Establishing the National Disaster Management Council and Institutionalizing the National Disaster Risk Management Plan.
The bill was passed into law in 2009 – Republic Act 10121.
PROPOSED MEASURE:
Bong Revilla to propose into legislation Magna Carta of Disaster Risk Management Workers and refile SB 2620 – PROPOSING a permanent item for disaster officer in every local government unit
Senator Bong Revilla will propose into legislation the creation of Magna Carta of disaster risk management workers. He will also refile his bill on the establishment of a permanent item for a disaster officer in every local government unit. Through this legislation, every local government unit will be able to create a more dynamic organizational structure fully functional in times of natural and man-made disaster through the creation of their response and rescue methods, acquisition of facilities and equipment, and even trainings and seminars to teach the common Filipino how to save their own lives and their fellowmen while waiting for rescuers to arrive.
With each LGU having its own disaster risk reduction officer and department, disaster response mitigation will become more effective and efficient, sparing the country from hike in death toll and billions worth of damage to properties and natural resources.
